SECTION 5: FIRE HAZARDS

FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES:

EVACUATE AREA IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT fight fire.

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:

- Suitable extinguishing media: Spread jet of water, sprinkler.
- Extinguishing media not to be used: Fire-extinction powder.
- Special exposure hazard arising: Combustion gases contain nitrous fume. Risk to the lungs at longer exposure.
- Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Flame-protection treated complete-covering clothes. Breathing apparatus when working in smoke.

SECTION 6: ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions: Flame-protection treated clothes is recommended.

Environmental precautions: Production as far as possible in closed systems. Containers must be kept well closed.

SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling: Production as far as possible in closed systems, free from ignition sources. Rooms where the product is handled must be equipped with sprinklers. Explosive classified electric equipment must be used. Equipment well earthed.

Storage: Stored in a dry and cool place, only in places approved for storing of explosives.

MATERIALS OR CONDITIONS TO AVOID:

Hard magnetical materials in handling equipment.

SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Engineering measures: Use, as far as possible closed systems. No smoking, fire , sparks or welding. Prevent sparks caused by static electricity. Use explosion protected el-equipment. Use tools which cannot cause sparks. Possibility to eye-rinse must exist in the working-room.

Personal protection equipment: --

Respiratory protection: --
Hand protection: Suitable gloves.
Eye protection: --
Skin protection: Flame-protection treated clothes.
Specific hygiene measures: --

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Safety glasses
Impervious gloves
Appropriate respiratory protection is required when exposure to airborne contaminants may exceed acceptable limits. Respirators should be selected and used in accordance with OSHA, Subpart I (29 CFR 1910.134) and manufacturer’s recommendations.
Flame retardant clothing
Wear conductive safety shoes.

WORK PRACTICES AND ENGINEERING CONTROLS:

Do NOT smoke in areas where powder is stored or used.
Material is shock sensitive. Use care in handling.
Keep away from ignition sources. Friction can cause ignition.
Eyewash fountains and safety showers should be easily accessible.
Prevent build-up of static electric charges.
Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to control airborne levels below recommended exposure limits.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES DURING REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE:

Eliminate ignition sources and prevent build-up of static electric charges.
Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment.
Wetting work area with water will greatly reduce hazards.
Completely remove product from area, and thoroughly clean all equipment, piping, or vessels before beginning maintenance or repairs.
A work permit system is recommended for any preparation and clean-up.
